Survey on New Fertilizer Plant and Intermodal Transportation Terminal Project in Iraq (PPP Infrastructure Project)
UNICO headed a 16-expert team (for fertilizer production, port engineering, railway business, and finance), and that surveyed a PPP (Public and Private Partnership) Infrastructure Project in Iraq. The fertilizer plant is planned as one of core facilities for the development of the agricultural sector. The transportation terminal is expected to enable efficient transportation of the containers and general cargo all over the Iraq. The project is expected to be the first PPP project in the Mideast and African region for Japan.
Fertilizer Plant Rehabilitation Project in the Republic of Iraq
Fertilizer production facilities are indispensable to the restoration of the agricultural industry, a core industry of Iraq. The Government of Japan identified the rehabilitation of fertilizer plants as a pillar of the post-conflict assistance for the Iraq. UNICO was selected as the project management consultant for this ODA Loan project because of high evaluation of its engineering and project management in related past projects.
FEED Review Consulting Services for Iraq/Basrah Upgrading FCC Project
The Government of Japan had funded the implementation of FEED Review Consulting (FRC) Services for Basrah Refinery FCC project as an ODA loan for Iraqi economic reconstruction activities. Through international competitive bidding, UNICO in a consortium with TKT/Italy obtained this FRC services contract from the Ministry of Oil of Iraq. UNICO implemented the FRC services and, as an additional service, prepared the draft ITB for EPC bidding for the Basrah Upgrading FCC Project by dispatching consultants to Rome with back-up support from the Tokyo head office.
Cabo Verde Drinking Water Project
To secure stable drinking water supply and to maintain water pipeline networks are important policy issues for Cabo Verde, an island country in the Atlantic Ocean. UNICO conducted a feasibility study in San Tiago Island to establish a new seawater desalination facility and new water supply pipelines as well as to maintain the existing water delivery pipeline networks.
Senior Secondary Education Project in the Republic of Uzbekistan
In order to increase employment opportunities of the youth population, the Republic of Uzbekistan has promoted the expansion of vocational high schools. For three years from 2002 to 2005, the Japanese government trained teachers and supplied equipment for 50 agricultural high schools. Two years later, UNICO conducted field studies of the effects of the support. UNICO identified several challenges in equipment maintenance, teacher training and curriculum development, and has made recommendations to both governments.
